We can also handle Chinese-related translation projects in cooperation with partner translators. The main language pairs we support are as follows:
English to Japanese
Japanese to English
Chinese to Japanese
Japanese to Chinese
English to Chinese
Chinese to EnglishFor Chinese-related projects, we will confirm the technical field, volume, deadline, and scope of work before determining whether we can accept the project.
-
What types of documents do you handle?
-
We handle patent specifications, claims, abstracts, text in drawings, Office Actions, written opinions, amendments, responses, PCT-related documents, technical explanatory materials, and other related documents.
We can assist not only with application documents, but also with documents related to Office Action responses and other intellectual property or technical work.
-
What are your main technical fields?
-
Our main fields include chemistry, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, materials, machinery, semiconductors, electrical engineering, IT and telecommunications, medical devices, and interdisciplinary fields involving these areas.
In particular, we carefully handle documents that require technical understanding and terminology consistency, including chemical names, examples, claims, measurement conditions, substituents, and numerical ranges.
-
Can you take into account the relationship between the claims and the specification?
-
Yes.
In patent documents, the relationship among the claims, specification, and drawings is important.
To the extent possible, we check the correspondence among elements, terminology consistency, and the flow of the description when translating. However, legal judgments that go beyond the scope of translation work, such as the validity of rights or legal interpretation of claim scope, should be confirmed by a patent attorney, attorney-at-law, or other qualified professional.
-
Can you translate in accordance with existing translations or translation memories?
-
Yes.
If existing translations, translation memories, glossaries, term bases, or style guides are available, we can take them into account in translation and review work.We also pay attention to consistency so that terminology and expressions do not differ unnecessarily between previously translated portions and newly translated portions.
-
Can I request translation even if I do not have a glossary or style guide?
-
Yes.
We can handle projects even when no glossary or style guide is available. In such cases, we consider how terms are used within the source text, and, where appropriate, refer to published patent documents, previous applications by the same applicant, and other related materials to maintain terminology and expression consistency as much as possible.
If you have preferred terms or specific style rules, please provide them in advance.
-
Can you refer to published patent documents or prior art documents?
-
Yes.
Where necessary, we can refer to published patent documents, corresponding foreign applications, prior art documents, existing translations, and other reference materials. However, if the required research scope is broad, or if document review or terminology research is needed in addition to the translation work itself, we will confirm the scope of work and discuss any additional fees in advance.
-
Do you support CAT tools?
-
Yes.
We support memoQ, Trados, XTM, Phrase, Xbench, and related translation support environments. If translation memories, term bases, QA settings, or style guides are available, please provide them in advance.
We will confirm whether we can support the project depending on the file format and project conditions.
-
Can you translate text in drawings or prepare translated drawings?
-
Yes.
We can translate text in drawings.
Depending on the scope of work, we can also prepare translated drawings.Because the workload varies depending on the drawing format, amount of text, and whether layout adjustment is required, we will provide a quotation after reviewing the source materials.
-
Can you handle review-only projects?
-
Yes.
We can review translated documents, check terminology consistency, and compare translations with existing materials. However, we will confirm the source text, target text, reference materials, scope of work, and desired deadline before determining whether we can accept the project and providing the applicable fees.
-
Do you provide MTPE services?
-
MTPE services are considered on a case-by-case basis after confirming the source text, the quality of the machine translation, the scope of work, the deadline, and the fee conditions.
In patent documents, machine-translated text may appear natural at first glance while still containing issues in claim structure, terminology correspondence, technical content, or expressions that may affect the scope of rights.
For this reason, we treat MTPE as a separate type of work from ordinary translation or review, and we confirm the conditions individually.
-
Can you handle urgent projects?
-
We can handle urgent projects where feasible.
However, the time required for patent translation varies significantly depending on the technical field, document type, volume, availability of reference materials, and whether drawing translation is required.
For urgent requests, please provide the target document, desired deadline, and priority matters. We will review the materials and inform you whether we can accept the project.
-
How are fees determined?
-
Fees vary depending on the language direction, document type, technical field, volume, deadline, scope of work, whether CAT tools are used, and whether drawing translation or review is required.
We provide an individual quotation after reviewing the target document and your requested conditions.
If additional work may be required, we will discuss the scope of work and fees in advance.
-
What payment methods do you accept?
-
In principle, payment is made by bank transfer after issuance of an invoice.
For ongoing transactions or transactions with overseas companies, please contact us to discuss the details.
-
